SUGGESTIONS
Ø
The orthopedically
handicapped children have specific difficulties of learning. Therefore some special training materials
should be used in a regular classroom situation.
Ø
The
physical impairment of the child often creates emotional problems for the
orthopaedically handicapped children.
Therefore necessary care should be taken to given individual attention
to solve such emotional problems.
Ø
Modification
of furniture to provide comfort to the orthopaedically handicapped is very much
essential in a regular classroom.
Ø
It is
experienced that the orthopaedically handicapped children are less well
accepted than normal children in an integrated class. Such physical integration does not provide
psychological integration. As a result
of which, these handicapped children face many psychological problems.
Ø
In the IED
class, the orthopaedically handicapped children should be provided with
necessary learning equipments and adjustment equipments.
Ø
The
physically therapists should take much care to enable the orthopaedically
handicapped child to develop the ability for free movement.
Ø
The occupational
therapist on the other hand should prepare these children for future employment
and enable them for participation in activities undertaken by the school. Such participation will help for the
development of creativity and self-confidence.
Ø
The
orthopaedically handicapped children should be provided with necessary
apparatus like wheelchairs, artificial limbs etc., which will help hem for
movement and communication with the people in the community.
Ø
Early
identification of he orthopaedically handicapped children is another important
responsibility of teacher. Early
identification can help these children to learn in the programme of IED.
Ø
The
teacher should provide them knowledge in some special skills either in the
resource room or in a room specifically meant for these children in the
mainstream education.
Ø
The
government should provide assistive devices to the eligible children identified
in the health camp. The NGO’s will be
utilized for this purpose. The district
authorities will correspond with the agencies and procure the devices as per
procedure.
Ø
The
training should be provided to teachers who are working in the IED, for handle
the children with special needs in regular schools with available
infrastructure, curriculum and the existing system.
Ø
The
awareness campaign needed to educate the parents for their attitudinal change
and to equip them with certain skills in handling their children after school
hours. It is also proposed to extend the programme for he parents of severely
disabled children who need more training. For awareness programme SSA intends
to involve NGO’s to facilitate.
